I broke two fingers and my rist yesterday and went to the hospital. They have me on pain medicine and I was wondering how long will it hurt and how long will it be in a cast?

Ask your doctor about how long the cast will be on. As far as how long it will hurt, that's a highly individual thing. There are things you can do to decrease the pain, however. Keep your hand and wrist elevated above the level of your heart as much of the time as possible. This will reduce the swelling, which will reduce the pain. Apply cold (an icebag or a package of frozen peas or frozen corn works well) for the first 48 hours after the injury. Rest the area as much as possible. If that's the hand you write with, write as little as possible or try writing with your other hand.
Watch your fingers for signs that the cast is too tight--tingling, numbness, blueness, coldness. If those signs occur, get in to the doctor or the emergency room at once, so that the cast can be loosened to restore good circulation.
Try to relax and make the most of this unanticipated and unwanted break in your normal routine (no pun intended!).

i will hurt for a least 1 to 2 months. 2 to 3 months depending on the severity of your fingers
