I have the cable line ,now shall i just buy a modem,connect the cable line to the modem and the modem to my computer to connect to the internet or do i have to buy a router,why do i need a router

If you have a Cable Line and if you subscribe to Broadband from your Cable Service Provider, then you don't have to buy a Broadband Modem separately. Your Cable company should provide you with a Modem. Then all you need to do is to connect the Ethernet Cable from your Modem to the Ethernet Port on your Computer, install the Broadband Software ( simply follow the onscreen directions ) and you are in business.

well if you have cable internet u will need a cable modem external that should be supplied by the internet service provider im taking your talking about high speed internet not dialup.
u only need a router if u wish to share the connection between pc's or go wireless.

what IP did you get? did it start up with 169 ? if so this suggests which you at the instant are not connceted on your modem. close down all and swap them lower back on from modem after jiffy then your laptop. do you have 2 easy blinking after your laptop is on? are you constructive yuo have a good community card?

uhhh, if you are able to post a question here, you are already connected to the internet, what am i missing from your question??... are you on dial-up, and want to connect to cable?..If so you probably have to sign up with cable company, they will supply the modem...at least they did for me..

No, Unless you want to share the internet connection that you have with other computers/users at home or friends who live nearby
