Murder has a direct relationship to drugs and drugs have a direct relationship to gang activity.
As long as criminals are the distributors of drugs and their code is to murder for turf and repayment, then the problem will persist.
There are a number of ways to change this element of society, but most would require social radical restructuring that most people would not support.
Here are a few:
1. Legalize drugs. In addition provide them by prescription and lower the prices. The criminal element would be out of business in a few months.
2. Make it illegal to be a member of a street gang. Get tough on loitering, make jail time mandatory for dealing any amount of drugs and make repeat offenders do serious time, every time.
3. Enforce our borders and stop the influx of the drugs from Mexico. Most drugs come into this country across our southern border and we do little or nothing to stop it.

As long as people keep selling illegal guns, either on the street or in a store, it won't stop. Police need to toughen up and patrol the streets more often. On the news and in the paper, I have seen the countless kids forever silenced by gun violence, and it's tragic. Gun education and stricter, enforced laws about guns can really put an end to the murders.

Not until the city and state start pouring more money into education and special education and into parent education and stop pouring money over police and government officials.

The answer is to start with the man in the mirror, just like Michael said.
