There are many many many good comedies from that time frame. Here is an extremely small sample:

20s: The Kid starring Charlie Chaplin
30s: Duck Soup starring the Marx Brothers. (Actually, anything by the Marx Brothers)
40s: Road to Zanzibar starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby
50s: Monkey Business starring Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers. (With Marilyn Monroe.)
60s: The Pink Panther starring Peter Sellers
70s: Young Frankenstein starring Gene Wilder and Teri Garr
1980: The Blues Brothers starring John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd.

The Philadelphia Story is good, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, The Bishop's Wife is another with Grant, David Niven...the original Pink Panther movie which is titled "A Shot in the Dark" is great...Desk Set with Hepburn and Tracy is good. Then you get into the goofy movies, like Airplane, Police Story are just silly funny. Good Luck with those.
