best bet is to take it to the dry cleaners...
most home washers/dryers are not big enough...and puts extra wear and tear on them....
if you know someone in the army...send to the laundry service on post...cost will be way down... someplaces/some units even free.

make sure when it comes back....you take the plastic off and turn in-side-out for storage...sometimes the inside seems especialy within the zipper..could still be damp.

(ex-army girl....13years..9 months.....) HOOOAAH! (grin0

OK, I know this sounds girlie.. But I am macho, I swear.

First eat a dozen oranges and save the peels, throw them inside the sleeping bag.. I do this everytime I come back with musky gear.
Then put the bag inside a hefty garbage bag, knot it up. If I am in a hurry I put it in the sun for two days straight, if not I leave it alone for a week.

Then washi in a laundry machine 3X in a row alone with plenty detergent. Dry with bounce, and hang outside for fresh air immediatly before it cools. This kills a LOT of funk.
