usually there are only two things that cause freeze ups,low on freon charge or evaporator motor not running, if motor is ok have the charge checked.

Well, it might if you have a problem with them, however the condenser coils (which are the outside coils) rarely have any problems associated with them. The evaporator (or inside coils) are the ones that usually develope leaks and need to be replaced. Is this your problem, or are you just low on freon as can occur normally? An hvac technition can check your unit and tell you if the coils are leaking.

Not necessarily. Try cleaning the coil first before replacing it. Or, better yet, it may be best to call in an air conditioning tech for a diagnostic service.

In short, I would say no.
In the long of it, you need to call someone who can come over and look over the system and give you a professional anwer.
Never, never, never, take short cuts when it comes to your heating and cooling comfort products.
