I have a standard '92 Toyota pickup. When driving I can change normally from 1st and into 2nd gear. However, when I am going to change into 3rd gear, I have trouble as well goes for the 4th gear. 5th gear and reverse also work fine. I am only having trouble changing into 3rd and 4th gears. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be happening to my transmission?

Change the gear oil. This is a very simple procedure. Get a Haynes manual for the details.

When you change your gear oil, the truck will feel like new.

The same thing happened to my girlfriend's Subaru. Some gears were fine, others weren't, but I fixed it by accident (my youthful car-fixin' days).

I thought I was changing her engine oil, but I actually drained her gear oil by mistake. I realized my error, refilled her gear oil, and presto, her shifting was smooth as silk. I got extra kudos from her that night.
