I know exactly how you feel. It is rather tiresome having infantile answers to real questions. However, there are plenty of intelligent people who do respond... thank goodness.
Those others are just trying to rack up some points. Not sure why, though.

I totally agree, but the points do add up and for some unknown reason we all get totally excited when we reach a level up. I am not even sure why I enjoy it so, points, but I do! I have gotten a lot of insight from others on here that I have used or carried on to other people. There are many intelligent people on here who I seek their advice and opinion and take it with value.

I don't know - lol - why people do it, I think they just figure that to throw in a word or 2 they can get their points up. I am almost certain that some people are only here for them. It is OK to answer silly questions with silly answers but I have had the same thoughts as you when I type in a question of 'actual interest' and get some dumb response. Happy answering

Many times, it's just to gain the two points. Other times...and I have done this myself...the question you know will get no answers so to at least give that person SOME sort of answer. I have asked a question and no one answers. Therefore, instead of getting my few points for picking best answer, I have to delete the question and lose out on all five points.

I guess that's the price you pay for asking serious questions on a public forum such as Yahoo Answers. I'm not being rude either, it's just the truth. Not everyone is on here for important matters. To some it's just a good laugh. And then there are the ones who answer just for the points, which I don't understand, since nothing comes of it anyway...

Usually they do it for points. However sometimes you'll get an intelligent reason for why they're responding. I've done it once in awhile, but only if I feel I have a point to add that might help clarify the original question.

Well here goes the phrase. I don't know, However, I must say I don't understand their motives. Some just to get points , others to just be smart. Some people really are looking for help and then they get the wise remarks. For me, points are really not as important as helping someone who has a problem or circumstance they need some help with.
I have viewed SO pretty goody replies to questions and some are just poor response. thanks for asking a good question..

They like the question and want to see what the answer is. Answering puts it in their list of answers and gives them 2 points. Only adding it to the watch list does not give 2 points.

Well if they are going to take the time and read the question they might as well answer to get the 2 points even if they don't know the answer! Makes sense to me?

They just want 2 points. It's totally rude, though, and actually against the rules. You can click on the flag icon and report them for abuse (point gaming).
I don't know why people care about points, it's not like they are good for anything.
