well the best ever Scotty Bowman. he started his career with the Blues an expation team and brought them to the finals in there first 3 years. and he is the one that came up with the plan to beat the Broad Street Bullies, and that was to beat them at their own game. and they sure did. the Habs smashed the Bullies, Robinson made Shultzy look like a kid on the ice and then the Habs went on to win 4 straight cup's. Scotty Bowmans was told that all players hated him 364 days a year but they loved him that 1 day, and that was the day they hoisted the Stanley Cup.

the worst ever was Mario Trembley. him and management at the time were horrible, Habs worst years ever in the 90's sure we won the Cup in 93 but after that Mario and staff didnt see eye to eye with the players and we got to see one of hockeys greatest players leave the orginazation, Patrick Roy. you would say its bee a time of the Dark Ages for the Montreal Canadiens, but we have Bob Gainey and things are going to change and for the better. i dont see a Cup this season which would be nice, but i do see one in 2008-09 season the Habs 100th anniversary.

to me today.... Pat Quinn, im so sick and tired about hearing about this guy he never won ****, he cant coach the young kids and thats been his biggest problem his whole career, thats why the Leafs let him go but it still wont matter cause the Leafs SUCK period. i dont see him coaching another team again for a few years maybe never.

Jacque Lemaire is probably the best today he has Scotty Bowmans mentality and he tells his players we are here to win thats it and if you dont give a 100% in each and every game well i dont want you to be on the team, its that simple.

and to the guy that said Ted Nolan is the worst coach, he must be racist or something. Ted Nolan was a great coach and still is he won the Jack Adams award, and just the past year almost won the Memorial Cup. he has a great hockey mind.

I would have to agree with this although I think it's not totally Quinn's fault but is also Ferguson's.
For the previous season it would go with Darryl Sutter, he has brought the Flames back from Near Death, to a cup contender. It will interesting to see how the new guy is going to do. A few other excellent coaches are (as much as i dont want to admit it) Marc Crawford is really good, did wonders in Vancover and Colorado. Glen Sather has always been one of my favorites. I also believe that Edmoton's Coach, Craig MacTavish did very well considering he brought his Oilers to the cup finals! I think the worst coach has to be Pat Quinn, personlly i think he drove the leafs into the ground, always going for players pas their prime, or too old to be playing, not enough young guys to keep the Leafs going for years down the road. Built a team around Mats Sundin, he is good, i wont deny that, but he is not that good,or at least not good enough to build a team around.
The best coach ever though I'd say was Scotty Bowman, a great coach that had a talent!

Best:
Scotty Bowman
Look at Detroit since he left. He could get the most out of what he was given.

Worst: Mike Milbury
As a coach and general manager he ruins everything he touches. How he has kept steady work in the NHL boggles the mind.

Right now, I'd have to say the worst is Jacques Lemaire becuase I absolutely hate the way his teams play. That's not entertainment and sports should be entertaining. Hopefully, Jacques will wake up and now realize after getting Parrish, Demitra and Johnsson that they need to open up.

The best--Lindy Ruff. He gets more out of team than any coach. Considering that Buffalo team really were overmatched in almost all series yet nearly made the Final with 4 regular D guys down, Ruff was a genius. Plus he has shown he can win w/ and w/o Hasek.

Best: Scotty Bowman, even though he's retired.
Worst: Ted Nolan, Jacques Martin, or maybe Wayne Gretzky. I love the guy, but honestly, he's not a very good coach, but I think he'll get better.

I can't stand Keenan either.

I love Lindy Ruff, I think he's a very smart hockey guy and an honorable person. He's accomplished a lot with the Sabres--so far.

Scotty was and is the best.

Mike Keenan for worst coach of all time! Went downhill fast after Philly, got lucky in year with rangers, destroyed teams ever since.
