Because a lot of people marry for the wrong reasons. I am happily married and have been for 10 years. My husband and I both are very happy people.

1. Because you're single.
2. Because you just haven't met any of the happy married people.
Question: how do you define "100 times happier"? How can anyone be THAT happy? Fascinating.

Seems to me there are many possible reasons.
-Maybe they got married too young, or too quickly. The result it that they are having problems adjusting to marriage because one of them was not ready for the commitment or they didnt know each other well enough.
-Maybe stress from outside the marriage is making them unhappy and it is easy to take it out on the person the see the most often. Most people wouldnt take out their frustration on a co-worker or boss because of consequences, but do take out frustration on their spouse without thinking of those consequences
-Maybe they are unhappy with their marriage in general. They imagined it would be different somehow and you are sensing that unhappyness. (usually related to my first point, above).
In general, unless you have lived with the person for years before getting married, there are many things that you discover about them when married that you didnt know. Sometimes you just arent happy with what you find. Many times you think you can change the person (you cant), or live with the new/unknown thing, but later on it becomes an issue that makes you unhappy

Hummm! Funny! I know more people that are married that are happier than people that are single! Why in the world would you want to be single!!!???

Yes only because they are young...ask them again after 15 to 20 years..the story will be different.
