You will often see a sign in the entrance to clubs and pubs with R.O.A.R written on it. This means Right of Admission Reserved. It tells the public that the management reserve the right to refuse admission to whom so ever they please. It is perfectly legal and may set any legal restriction they like. Age is one of them. Shops may also do the same, for example our local newsagent will not allow unaccompanied school children into his shop because of a spate of shoplifting. This stopped when the ban was imposed.

by law it could be 18 but a club or a shop can set an age path ie they could have over 30 to get in a club. by law a minimum is set at 18 but owners have the right to increase this another factor they say this is 18-21 have a 30% higher chance to start fights at clubs so thats why they sometimes prefer 21+

I work for Tesco and it is legal for a company to restrict the selling age of an item. We operate under a "Think 21" scheme and if the customer doesn't look 21 then they will be asked for ID to prove they are over 18 to buy alcohol etc. I have had occasions while working as checkout manager to refuse to sell to people who were legal to buy the products on the basis I believed they would supply them to people underage.

Yes, it's legal it keeps 18-20years from going to jail or dieing in accidents from drunk driving. Why can't 18 year-olds go to clubs that are 18 & up? Why rush to see what's going on in 21 and up clubs? Well, it's the same thing plus drinking. When your over twenty one you'll appreciate not being bothed by "high school grads"!

yeah. that's the only flaw in the age laws.
Adults should be allowed to do as they please which is at 18.
yet the over 21 rule dominates that. I understand the drinking age limit, but as for clubs, bars, etc. Its unnecessary.
If a man or woman can die for their country at 18, they should be able to tip a few back......regardless of the 21 drinking law.

Its legal, but I don't think its right. Either the age of majority is 18, or its 21. Needs to be one or the other for everything.

Yes it is legal even though you can drink when 18. Apprantely over 21s are meant to be a bit more responsible than drunken teenagers.

It's a double standard, yes because 18 is old enough to die for their country but not old enough to drink, but making the drinking age 21 has cut traffic fatalities by a large percentage so that's how they justify it.

It's legal but in my opinion not moral. The society I think has no business setting minimum ages past 18.

The only thing a company cannot restrict is the colour of their customers. Otherwise they can do as they wish. just because they are offering services and products doesnt mean they have to sell them to you.
