Last Friday I started taking yarrow extract from the health shop for an acid stomach. She recommended that I take it three times a day 20 -30 drops in water . Today I started to get paims in my stomach, and just by the naval area is very tender. I went out for a walk this afternoon and it very painful walking with like a stitch in myu side, and a feeling of nausea. I did phone the NHS direct thinking it might be appendix, but I do not think it is , however I have taken any more today, I still feel sick and have still got the pain.

Excuse my preaching but I do feel you need it – this is exactly why you do not self medicate if you do not know the effects of what it is you are taking, next time either learn these things prior to taking anything or leave it to the professionals. Just because something is herbal does not mean it is any more safe than medication you would get from a pharmacy or doctors office.
Yahoo! Answers is not the best place in the world to be seeking medical advice, if NHS direct cannot help you then maybe you are best consulting a doctor, naturopath or someone similar who would be able to better advise you.

Yarrow to my knowledge, has no specific safety problems as it is often used by women as a means to assist with menstrual problems, only in larger doses is this ever a problem. The only safety problem I could see with taking yarrow would be if you were to have developed an allergy to the plant – there is no known toxicity to the plant. I would say going by what I know of herbal treatments, which I will admit now are restricted to their use in treating menstrual and reproductive problems, within herbal contraception and induced miscarriage, where yarrow is commonly used, that yarrow is not going to cause problems as you describe, so I'd be looking elsewhere for the cause of the problem.
