If your ovaries were removed you lost your major source of estrogen and hot flashes are a common result. Even if the ovaries were left in place, sometimes the blood supply is damaged in the surgery and menopause begins fairly soon after the operation.

Hormone replacement therapy will stiop the hot flashes, although it has some risks you should discuss with a doctor. There are also herbal preparations that help many women, including cohosh and plant estrogens derived from soy.

For more information, a very informative web site called "Power Surge" ca answer many of your questions. (They like to call a hot flash a "power surge.)

Oh I feel one coming on now! LOL! I had a hysterectomy long ago ( I am 49), the hot flashes are awful, I was on hormone replacement thereapy for awhile, didn't really help my hot flashes much but helped with the mood swings! Definately talk to your doc, he can recommend a low dose to start with of the hormone therapy. I keep a little fan on my headboard and use it almost all the time when I am in bed because I just get drenched with sweat otherwise (ooh maybe that was too personal) LOL! Good luck but definately talk to your doc.

Depending on your age your body may still have the effects of going through menopause. Just because you had a hysterectomy doesn't mean that you wouldn't still go through. Now if you are not at that menopausal age then maybe you should speak to your doc and he can give some helpful hints on some type of hormonal balance melds

I agree with everyone who advised you to see your doctor about hormone replacement therapy. You have no source of estrogen anymore and you may be going into a premature menopause. Yeah, ain't those hot flashes a b****?

Have your ovaries taken out too!

Or go on hormonal therapy.

(Or eat lots of tofu and stuff to get your phyto-estrogens up)

The best thing to do is to breath deeply, feel your bellybutton when u breath.
This is normal and will eventually ease up.
