Johnny Depp is from Ky, y'all, he should sound just like me, not like a character from an Austin Powers movie.. and don't get me started on Madonna trying to sound like she is part of the British Royal Family...

Just because Johnny Depp is from Ky doesn't mean he cant have a slight accent. I know plenty of people why are from where I live (MO), and they talk with slight accents, that doesn't mean that they are pretending. As for Madonna, I could care less about her.

I really don't get Johnny Depp. He's been living in France for years, not England. Maybe he was influenced by having to adopt an English accent for Cap'n Jack Swallow?

As for Madonna, she lives in England part time, but I don't think an adult's accent can be naturally influenced *that* much unless she works at it.

Madonna is from Rochester, MI (just like me) and I don't speak with an accent either. It seems that people tend to adapt to accents that or more pronounced then the one they came from. My wife's mother was born in MI and lived in the northern half of the country for most of her life, but she has lived in Georgia for the last ten and from listening to her you would think she was born on the back of a bayou boat.
Anyway, I would go Gay for Johnny Depp. 21 Jump Street rules!

Well, I guess considering that they moved to foreign countries, they adapted to that culture and just talk that way. It doesn't matter where you're from. I'm born and raised in Miami, Fl. and I've been told that I have a slight accent as if I was born in cuba. It's because I speak a lot of spanish. So, it doesn't matter where you're from, it's where you are. You adapt to the ways of the people.

So ... these folks occupy a great deal o' yore time, do they? My own personal feelings on it is ... if you must excercise an accent, try learning a new language. Like German! ( Forget Dutch, you'll go nuts. )

Because they are human chameleons. They are both wonderful artists so I guess they can pull off the fake accent well.
