Check with SYHA if you can rent one of their lodges for a bit. They're usually remote but friendly, and in the great outdoors of course. You'd have money to spare as well.

Glasgow is great for a city break and not full of tourists. The world class Kelvingrove Art Museum has just opened plus it is packed with restaurants and bars. We stay at the Raddisson (4 star) which you can pick up some good leads via laterooms or expedia. Very central and modern. Also Malmaison or The Art House are supposed to be good - check out on tripadvisor. If you want somewhere more rural Oban 3 hours north west of Glasgow is beautiful; lots of stuning scenery and walks but also good supply of restaurants and pubs. You can take a ferry out to Mull for a day and look for sea eagles or whales. The best place to stay is The Manor House Hotel ( about £100 per night, less off season) which is which recommended and does wonderul local food - great place to hole up for a couple of nights.

You will have to wait until next year for this one I'm afraid, but if you like the odd bit of folk music and don't mind sleeping under canvas, you could always go to the Newcastleton Traditional Music festival held at the end of June/early July in the lovely little village of Newcastleton, Roxburghshire. You can pitch your tent on the river front for free so you only need cash to get there and for sustenance (beer, whiskey and the like...). If you ask nicely, I'm sure my folks would let you pop in to use their facillities when you get caught short...
