If cleaning it fails and the machine is still working you can always get one of those Fabric softener balls that you fill up with softner and throw into the wash at the beginning of the cycle. It then opens when the rinse cycle starts. I believe Downy makes one.

Take the drawer out and give it a good clean with hot water and a soft brush. The softeners are a lot thicker and more concentrated now and I find the best way is to either dilute the softener with water in the bottle, making sure you give it a good shake before you put it in or by buying the thinner types. I had this problem when using the "easy iron" type of softener, so I don't buy it any more.

I had this problem. Take the softener compartment out and wash it thoroughly. Make sure there is no powder stuck in any of the tiny water tubes inside the machine, I used a pin to clear them. I had no problem after that. Sometimes the powder clogs everything up.

depends how old it is. if it is old or if there is something that is blocking the hole at the bottom, ex. dried softener, string etc. it will not work. check the manufacturer and look on their website to see if the washer only uses softener on certain cycles. if not then it is probably a bad conection on the switch that works the valve to let it into the tub. try working with it a bit, get some really hot water and see if you can disolve whatever is in the bottom that may be gumming up the plug. hope it helps.

This happened to me the other day. I took an old tooth brush and brushed the little holes. I could tell when it was clear because a little of the Downy ran out. The newer Downy (softeners) products are thicker now a days so, I add a half cap or less of water to the dispenser to avoid this clogging. Sometimes my son uses my washer and forgets this little trick so it got clogged up a bit.

clean out your soap dispenser with hot water and run a hot wash on your washing machine (leave the machine empty except for the washing powder, etc). if this doesnt work then check with the manufacturer it could be a fault on the machine.
