the A/C compressor motor will spin freely when A/C is not "engaged"......which means your motor doesnt have the resistance of that compressor.
but as soon as you turn on the A/C, the compressor motor engages and this adds more tension and resistance within your drive belts on the motor.

think of it as adding a belt that turns a motor, to a common household fan..... it will slow it down and make it weaker.

Most smaller engines have a "kick up" solenoid that advances the throttle at an idle when A/C is running. the lack of power would state that the cut off for the A/C also is not working. when the engine doesn't have enough vacuum to keep the cutout pulled it will release and cut off the compressor until the vacuum is high enough to run. THis could be as simple as something is keeping the idle low on the engine. like this vacuum switch. Since I have never had a TATA in my shop. This is where I end. a manual or a service center would be your next stop.

The reason pick-up is reduced when the air-conditioning is in use is due to the belt drive of the air-conditioning compressor. The air-conditioning compressor is belt driven using a belt that runs around the crankshaft or another pulley that is driven by the crankshaft. The pulley for the air conditioning compressor has a clutch on it which allows the pulley to free-wheel when the air conditioning is turned off. When you use the air conditioning the compressor engages the clutch and the compressor is driven by the belt.
The power it takes to driven the air-conditioning compressor is considerable and sometimes adversely affects the engine performance. Some automobiles are equipped with a cut off switch which will over-ride the air conditioning compressor when under heavy or full throttle.

I'd have that checked out by a mechanic. The AC shouldn't drag the car done that much. It sounds like the idle speed is set to slow. Have you changed the air filter recently. A clogged air filter can drag an engine down some. If you are seeing black smoke from your exhaust your long overdo for a new air filter.

When in motion and the A/C is on,it draws power from the engine itself. When you stop and restart -if the A/C is on the engine does not start as the A/C is left on. Only after you off the A/C, the engine can start.

Because the AC draws from the motor. Gas mileage is also reduced.

it probably means you are using more power than the engine can produce.
