I have the original on DVD. It stars Christopher Lee, a very young Edward Woodward (as the cop), Ingrid Pitt and Britt Ekland. It's a very 70s type movie with on and off nudity and hokey folk rock type music. Very camp and somewhat dated by todays standards but it's fun to watch if you don't take it too seriously.
It takes place on a small isolated island off the coast of England called Summerisle. The story revolves around the disappearance of a young girl named Rowan. Woodward is called in to investigate (he has to fly there in a flying boat). The locals all give him the runaround. Eventually he discovers that the residents of Summerilse are all pagans, who make a yearly sacrifice of a virgin to the good goddess and the green man to ensure a good harvest in the fall. They do so by constructing a giant wicker man, lock the sacrifice in the wickerman, and then burning the wicker man. He suspects, naturally, that Rowan is about to be offered up as this years sacrifice, BUT!!! Rowan isn't the ONLY virgin on the island and boy is Woodward in for a rude shock.
The remake with Cage takes place in an isolated community in Maine, and the pagans depicted in the remake are a lot nastier looking (like maybe satanist and not pagan). I'm not sure how well setting the movie in the US will do. I could believe a surviving pagan community in Europe, but not in America.

It's a remake of a creepy old movie from the early seventies,Someone investigating a disappearance goes to a remote island ,I think somewhere in England. It's a small place, very few people, everyone knows everyone else.Anyway as it turns out ,everyone on the island is into some weird pagan religion where they have to sacrifice someone. The investigator who went to the island turns out to be the next sacrifice. This movie, the original that is,was very disturbing.Reminded me a lot of the TV series "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home",where someone also had to be sacrificed in a small town, every harvest season so the crops would be successful.Sick wackos in my opinion

All I know is the commercials look good. I'm not a big fan of Cage (he was ok in The Weatherman) and will probably won't see it till the dvd comes out.
I do like Britt Ekland and Edward Woodward (The Equalizer http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088513/ )and will probably pick this version (1973) up off ebay.
Saw your 360. Seems fine to me.

It is a remake but the original was supposed to be good. It has sort of a cult following. The story may be sort of wierd for some people but I think it will be good.

Since I think Nicholas Cage is an absolutely horrid actor, I'm not interested in seeing it at all. Anyone who thinks he's good has no clue what acting is about. The guy is a total hack!

It's about an Island town. A local girl is reported missing and a mainland police officer is sent to investigate, he uncovers a Pagan society and.......I won't ruin it for ya. Saw the original long time ago and loved it.
Congrats and good luck with your pregnancy.
