The Economist magazine did an article on this on 16th Mar 2006. They discussed 2 types of statistical model. Either a hyperbolic or a power-law curve were possible.
The article concluded "If it is what is known as a power law, then the 14-bladed razor should arrive in 2100."
I thought the article was a bit stupid. Its just a matter of time before the razor blade manufacturers pull all razors with more than 3 blades off the market because they don't sell. Personally I think 2 blades are sufficient, but to be honest, I'm not sure than 2 is better than one.
I don't know whether you can follow the link below. I subscribe to the Economist so I have access to all the articles on line.

That razor that are talking about has got six blades, it's also got one on the back for precision.
In 2015 in think we will be shaving with some sort of laser or energy beam that will remove the hair, but not harm the skin!

It'll have 26 blades. :D
I've heard that any more than 2 blades, and the razor can cause ingrown hairs.
I'm a woman, and I bought some new razors the other night. I can't remember who makes them, but they have 4 blades and wow...what a great shave. :)

It's all a gimmick,1 good blade will give a perfect shave. The problem for the makers is,they have to keep selling,if we all held on to the razors we have sales would plummet. It's the same with tooth-brushes,a good basic tooth-brush will do the job very well.

The Onion predicted five blades in 2004. :-)
As long as there are gullible idiots, they'll be doing something to tweak the product, and I don't think we'll be running out of those in 2015.
I can't believe they're selling razors that "vibrate", either! I'd cut my legs to ribbons!

96 Razor blades - each at an interesting new angle and shaped to mould your face and give you a complete shave in one stroke. Of course It'll be declaired rubbish in 2016 when they bring out a shaver with 97 blades...

Good point!
Don't think there will be razors, either we will use vile smelling hair removing cream, wax strips or we shall start to see personal 'nail-bar' style plucking saloons springing up in the high-street.
To be honest, as long as you make sure the skin has been soaked long enough in warm water, and use a good thick gel\foam even a BIC does a good job.
