My brother in law is a wack job on the far right who works for an organization who is doing everything they can to bring down gay marriage is the state I live in. He and these people say its "for the children" they say that children are better off with two straight parents and if you say to him well over half of marriages end in divorce, they just totally ignore that, that is bad for the children. So i mean republicans do you just hate gays that much? I mean I know you claim the Bible is against gays, but Im curious as to what that argument has to do with our countrys laws. I mean um whats the other reason for not allowing gay marriage? Man I bet it would bring about the complete collapse of Americas tightly knit moral fabric if we allowed people who loved each other to get married

Proud Republican....You misunderstood my question. My Brother in law is the one working to outlaw gay marriage not my brother, my parents raised free thinking liberals who dont try to force others into their ways of thinking. I mean im also a Christian and believe in God, and I dont see where in the Bible it outlaws gay marriage.

I can't tell the gays what to do. I just don't want the word marriage redefined to fit their frame. They can do as they please with their lifestyle, and can have similar if not even special favors for being gay couple. Marriage is special to me. If re-defined it not only loses meaning but it will affect institutions like churches in a very negative way. Pastors who don't believe in gay marriages will have to perform those marriages, or they lose their job, or be dragged into lawsuits. I can't allow myself to give in for the gays, when a lot more people will get hurt. Then there's the issue of children. But I am not going to get into that now. And none the less, if you redefine marriage, you will have to include a larger audience then. So you will have legal bestiality which actually happens in Germany, Austria and some other European countries, and it's cruelty to animals. I have no regard for the gays because they have a hidden agenda. They are emotional crack heads that will whine so much until they get their way. They are people with 'issues' - it's become like racism... you say anything to a normal person, it's a joke. You say the same thing to a gay or a black man, they sue you!! Way too much drama! -

Well, you need to do some more research, and your brother in law needs to learn to communicate better.
Go back and read the supreme court ruling against polygamy from the 19th century.
Gays do not, by definition, breed. They rely on a member of the opposite sex for matching. If there are no children due to birth rate, then there is no more country. Straights have more children than gays, therefore it is a governing interest to promote straight marriage and to not promote gay marriage.
Also, there is a difference between state sanctioned marriage and a private marriage. Gays can go to their church and get married, they just cannot compel the people of America to recognize their union.
With 86% of Americans opposed to gay marriage, it is hardly just Republicans who hold those views. I would encourage you to read up a little more and get your data lined up. Otherwise, your rhetoric remains bereft of substance.

Republicans are simply very conservative people. They beleive in traditional values, ie schools, homes, relationships etc. Yes, there are some far right republicans, just as there are some far left democrats. As a rebuplican- I am a conserative thinker. The union of marriage is actually a religious ceremony- that's why relegious people get a little touchy about it. A civil union is not religious- but gets you the rights of marriage through the eyes of the government. My point- I don't have a problem with Gay civial union. I do have a problem with gay marriage. The bible speaks very adamently against homosexual behavior; therefore I, peronally, cannot agree with a religous union.

Less than 10% of America favors any kind of Gay marriage. Not even the Homosexuals have a consensus on what kind of legal union options they want.
For some reason both Hate radio and the liberal media make this a big issue. If it wasn't for Ton Cruise being in the closet on South Park this would be a non issue.
I don't care about what anyone does in the bedroom. I don't want to know what anyone does and I don't want to see a film of anyone having any kind of sex with anything.

Actually most of the world for over 2000 years have held the view that marriage is between a man & women. Sorry, but having a sexual fetish does not make one worthy a right to marry. It wrong to say it's Republican view only. Just because some find it fashionable or hip to be gay. It Does not make it OK.

It's just a way to get more votes from the extremist right-wing Christian voters who are the largest group of Republican supporters. The politicians themselves probably don't care one way or the other, but they know that if they make anti-gay campaign speeches the Radical Religious Right will vote for them. This "anything for a vote" mentality is extremely dangerous to our freedom and our Constitutional rights. Some politicians would do away with the Bill of Rights altogether if they thought it would help them politically.

All politics are bases on underlying beliefs. Hopefully in the US we have a good system of presenting both sides of a position and debating them in the market of ideas.
Last I checked, I think the voters in each state that has voted on gay marriages has voted to oppose the recognition of such unions. The voters seem to have the last say in all this.

I agree. I honestly think a lot of the 'gay marriage' issue is only political rhetoric. Bullshit issues to keep our minds off of the really important stuff. Some people actually get caught up in it. The issues we should be debating and worrying about get swept under the carpet while the politicians ramble about unimportant things like gay marriage and flag burning. It seems like narrowminded rednecks like to focus on 'who they should hate'

It is not just republicans who oppose gay marriage.it is only the far left loons that support it. Contrary to what anyone is led to believe, they are but a small segment of America.Beside that, why are they forcing their alternative lifestyle on the majority of American citizens who oppose it.?

If your brother can not reason with you then for me to try would waste your time and mine.As long as one in your family has values and is decent it is well .Your parents has 1 child that is a good lineage to the future.
LOL Just think if your mother or father felt as you then I would not be able to answer your question, you would not exist.
