I was wondering because I was reading top headline on the Yahoo frontpage and it was "What have we learned from Katrina?". Now Im not looking for answers to that question but doesnt it seem like there are more important things right now than looking back at Katrina AGAIN. I have seen hundreds of articles that say almost exactly the same thing, personally I think that the news should report news not history or opinionated suggestion peices like this. What do you think?

The media is so focused on Hurricane Katrina because today, August 28th marks the 1 year anniversary of the Storm.

I work for a TV station and it's like this. True enough Katrina is over and done with, but the reason it's so huge because the people of the Gulf Coast are still struggling one yr later and out of respect for them and the ones lost, we (media) try to show what still needs to be done and what steps they have made to preventing another disaster and moving on with their lives.
And in some cases we have no local news and Hurricane Katrina is always news.

The lasting effects of Katrina continue to be a story that needs reporting, but it needs to be just one small part of the reporting. That's not to minimize the fact that there are thousands of people still dealing with it a year after it happened.
The news media tends to get its collective teeth into a story and not let it go. They'll report it, to the exclusion of all other news, ad nauseum. A current example is the crash of the Comair jet outside Lexington, Kentucky. It's tragic! And we certainly need to know what's happening, but we don't need a blow by blow description of the events.

I have even gave up on our local news. The first ten stories is about the "killings" that took place over the week-end. All we have here in Alabama is murder, murder, murder. There maybe be a tape later in the program about flooding in poor neighborhoods.
I realize that all cities have places that you should not venture into. Before you start out for a walk at the noon time hour, do not go alone.
Just like I have a "stalker" that keeps entering my house and I can do nothing about it. I just can't catch her. How long has this been going on Eight-years. I have been told what to do by my criminal attorney, by my bail bondsman, and it is him that is going to find her for me. I know my rights when I am in my space, so to speak. I have be briefed by law enforcement what I can and cannot do.

I don't think the media focusses enough on most things.
Then again, they give you 27/7 on the Jon Benet Ramsey... why doesn't that bother you?
Katrina and what happened is still important. Karr is fluff. Odd that you choose to be bothered by one and not the other.
If someone asked me what was getting too much airtime, it wouldn't be Katrina, or the collapse or Iraq.

Most definitely, Get on with some good news for a change...I got so I don't watch the news. Same old thing and the way the reporters report not the facts but they emphasis certain things and down play others to fit their philosophy. Take personality out of the news..Just the facts and not talk about things over and over and over and over.

They have to drag on about the same story because thats the only developping news there is. They will keep dragging on the same subject until something new comes up.
