If it's pastuerized, then you're fine!
You're doing the right thing by checking labels. Check labels on anything.
I wish you the BEST of luck for a healthy baby!!!!!!!!

The issue with soft cheeses is the possibility that they carry Listeria bacteria, which can be harmful to the foetus.
The FDA says that Listeria lurks only in unpasteurized feta, Brie, Camembert, queso blanco, queso fresco, blue cheeses, and other soft cheeses. Those made from pasteurized milk are OK. How can you tell? Read the label. If it doesn't clearly state that the product is made from pasteurized milk -- or if it says the product is made from raw milk -- avoid it.

I was just told by my OB to avoid unpasturized "dairy items", including cheeses. Also be aware of the mayonnaise you use....My doctor recommends using a prepared mayo versus home-made mayo because of the egg in them or something.
I also thought feta cheese was made from goat's milk...I may be wrong. Just as long as it has been pasturized you should be fine. Call your OB to double check, though. Feta cheese, as well as other items such as Caesar salad dressing, mayonnaise, tuna fish, caffeine, sugar supplement/replacement (like Sweet-n-Low), and a few others were on a list of foods to avoid during pregnancy.
Hope this info helps. Congratulations on your pregnancy...Hope it's healthy and safe!!

You can eat anything dairy as long as it has been pasteurized. The harm is when it isn't and all of the germs and such are still present in the food. Pasteurization requires the milk to be heated to a point that all of the hazardous materials have been removed. So basically, ENJOY, and congrats!

sure...why not? pasteurized is fine.Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

good mommy!!! your read the label.
i'm not trying to patronizing....it just shows that you know the diet rules and are following them!!!
as long as it's pastuerized, then you're fine!
my OB and i discussed this and she told me a little known fact, at least unkown to me....
if it doesn't say anything about being pastuerized, then it IS....the only time they have to declare pastuerization on a product is if it is NOT pastuerized.
i asked about my yogurt b/c it didn't say on the label.
also, don't forget about ciders...it's not just cheeses and dairies that go through pastuerization.
take care mom!
