get down on her level and whisper to her. a screaming child will not be able to hear you whispering, therefore will quiet down, at least in the short term. speak firmly, but don't yell, bc she'll only scream louder to make herself louder than you.

and if that doesn't work, give her a flick on the head. quick attention-getter, hurts without actually causing harm, but doesn't leave a mark.

First understand that your daughter's screaming is her tool to get attention, what she wants, etc. The only way this can be done (yes, it worked with my child) is going to be tough for a while. If your daughter is not in pain, needs genuine help or is hungry and screams. You must tell her to express herself with words, then let her scream. If you give in , this process starts again. My suggestion is to stay with it and you will have a peaceful house.

in my opinion it is normal for 5 year olds to act out, because for one thing this is when they get there permanent molars and loose some teeth too and a lot of changes are going on with school and all. so i guess it depends on what kind of screaming or how long it lasts but not being able to have any control or able to voice what you want to say and feel then i say that can be pretty frustrating and it will pass soon enough and be replaced with something new and just as annoying.

When my son was that age and he would start screaming over something, I would remove myself from the room that he was in and did not give any response to him. After a few minutes he would just give up and stop. He didn't do this long. You just have to let them know that if the child does not get any response from you, they are just doing this act for nothing. They will stop.

My son is now 12 and when he gets to the point where he just keeps yelling or just throwing a tantrum, I leave the room and after awhile he's fine.

It works great!

maybe nothing
bu she may have depression.
I have a 9 years old that does the same thing that has clinnical depression... She may need help all depending on how severe it gets. My daughter still does but its gotton better. She used to scream for 3-4 hours straight until we got her help..
You need to get out of the house and find a baby sitter and DONT LET IT TAKe OVER YOUR LIFE AND RUIN YOUR MARIAGE.

I had a daughter that did that too. The way my husband and I solved it was to make her stay in her room and scream until she gets tired. Every time she screams, just send her to her room and tell her she can listen to herself scream until she gets tired. Eventually she will get the message and understand. I hope this works for you.

Don't listen to her when she screams.
Tell her: I'm not listening, until you're quiet.

Be prepared to have to keep listening to her screams for a few good minutes. But it will decrease after a while,
and then when she's quiet, listen to her.

I know it's really difficult, but...
Good luck.

Duct tape her mouth shut and tell her that until she is quiet, she'll have to keep it on.
