1. Hip-hop music.
2. Men who tell women they shouldn't listen to hip-hop because it's degrading to women.
Me, I think it's a coin flip. At least sexist rappers are honest about their sexism...

*laughs* Good Gaia, Curly, you're so busy addressing a stereotype that you miss the person you're talking to. You don't know me at *all*. Just like those men I'm talking about (and yes, I *am* on a soapbox!)

As a rap artist, I say that most things you hear are sexist in terms of hip hop. But men telling women they shouldn't listen to it is just messed up. I say that both are sexist. Neither have more over the other.

Hip - hop music can be more sexist, if the artist is aiming to do so.
Men who tell women to be better (by avoiding hip - hop music) are just like non-smokers telling smokers that smoking causes cancer ... there intentions are usually coming from a good place but they don't understand how to effectivly help you realize the damage it does, and usually just come off as jerks.

Rap isnt the only genre of music that is sexist. remember, not all rappers talk about sex and big butts and other stuff like that. Look at Common, for example.

1. Your question is a logical fallacy: the false either-or fallacy. there are more relevant options than you provided.
2. Your question isnt a question. Its a soap-box upon which you stand and express your opinion that 2 is in fact the answer.
Seeing that you asked, heres my opinion:
Your friends influence you, and affect who you are. If your friends are all tweakers, you pick up their language, dress in their styles, and try meth. If your friends are all white upper class preppies, you adopt the talk, you dress to be accepted, you hear their ideas supported and tend to agree with them.
We pick a level, and then our hearts and brains mold themselves to fit in it.
Everyone adopts the culture of their music. If you are a rocker, then you love to rock. If you love classic music, you love it, you know it, its parts its composers and musicians. If you love hip-hop, you learn to understand its language, but you also adopt hidden content.. its values become your values.
There are four parts of self, not just one:
The visible you: you see it, and everyone else does too.
The blind you: others see it, and you do NOT
The hidden you: others do NOT see it, but you do
The invisibe you: neither others, nor you, see it, but its you
All those parts conform to their environment. They are all influenced by the choices you make, because the choices you make make you.
Your music is one of your choices, but by definition you are unqualified to fully evaluate its impact on you as a person.
Finally, "no (person) is an island". You dont exist alone in the universe, but you are within a community. You have a family, and a community which you are a part of, which you interact with, and which you influence. Your choices dont just change who your self is in some unknowable ways, but your choices affect the people connected to you, sometimes in ways visible to them and not visible to you.
If what you do affects them, and changes their world, then they have a right to speak out about it, and whether or not you obey, you have a responsibility to hear what they have to say, and try to understand it at least as well as they do.
PS: Being openly sexist isnt a decrease in sexism, but an increase in it. Its tacit permission and approval of it. You should look for people who are NOT JUST "at least open" you should look for people who arent going to look down on you just because of your gender. Dont be tricked into cheapening yourself, you deserve respect, not just the appearance, but deep-down real respect, for who and what you are.

actually...to each his own...personally if the music does not apply i brush it off...the only time females get offended or the feelings get hurt is when someone is telling them the truth and they can't take it...
if you can't take the heat...stay out of the kitchen...
