Yes I am 39 weeks. The stomach is getting smaller because the baby is getting bigger. So the amount of amniotic fluid is going down while you are preparing for birth. Dont worry about the baby
I am sure the baby is fine. If you are that concerned you can always call the doc.
Also you are supposed to be counting their kicks now. You need to feel them at least 2x a day. Take whatever time you mainly feel them sit in a quiet room and for a half hour count their kicks. You should get 10 at least at each session you try. But my daughter is only giving me 10 a day now and the doc said she is fine.
Good luck!!

i just had a baby 11 days ago. It depends on how much smaller... as the baby grows, more amniotic fluid will leak out, causing your tummy to cling to the shape of the baby as the pockets of space disappear. so towards the end, your tummy may seem missapen or even a little smaller in size. But obviously if all of a sudden your tummy is half its size, something is horribly wrong.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and upcoming birth! Is this your first? I had asked my doctor about my "shrinking tummy" when I hit about 37 weeks (with my first pregnancy) because I was worried. The baby just dropped down into my pelvis, and from there I began dilating (I was at 2-3 cm for about 3 weeks, then they induced me). Again, congratulations, and I hope you have an easy and healthy labor and delivery!!

It may be that the baby is resting more on your pelvic bone now. I know my friends stomach has gotten smaller and she's due here in a few weeks also and its due to the baby moving down to her pelvic area.

lol, I wouldn't worry.....it sounds like you are starting to drop, which happens all the time. It means the baby is gettting into position for delivery. The change in placement causes you to look smaller from certian points of view.

Check with the doc.
The answers saying the baby dropped are most logical and probably right.
Is it easier to breath now? Like you can actually take a deep breath? Do you go to the washroom (urinate) much more frequently? Then it's definitely a drop.
Like I said first, check with your doctor.

It might be because the baby has 'engaged' or 'dropped' That means that the baby's head is deeper into the pelvis. It is normal around this part of pregnancy.
In a few weeks you will be holding you baby :-) Good luck.

The baby is dropping into the birth canal and getting ready for delivery. If you look in the mirror, you will probably notice that it looks lower on your mid section.
