My husband and I are looking to build a home in a newer subdivison that has homes
1) on a large lake (so we can dock our boat),
2) has mountains in the background,
3) is in a town with a great school system (we have two small children),
4) has homes from 5000 square feet and up,
5) has a young population (around 30-40).

I am thinking is will need to be near Ashville, NC. Are there any subdivisions you would suggest we start looking?

Okay, if Asheville is not for us can you think of any place in NC or Georgia?

Asheville is a beautiful area, but lakes are small because the area is in the mountains. The closest lake front property on a lake of any size is probably the Fontana Lake area west of Ashville. It is in the far western tip of North Carolina and is fairly isolated and rural.

One of the best places in North Carolina that fits all of your criteria is the Lake Norman area outside Charlotte. The lake is huge and landowners on the lake are allowed to have private docks. The area is not as hilly and cannot be considered mountainous, but other than that, it is ideal. It is also very expensive.

Good luck with your search.

Contact the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and ask for information and area demographics. On my only visit to Asheville the hotel I stayed at had many guests automobiles vandalised. Acid poured on the windows ruined many vehicle paint jobs. The law enforcement officers were so unconcerned I will never stay in Asheville again! There is a college within several blocks of the hotel and we were told it was probablly a college group prank. Not FUNNY!

Hi Tara! I love Asheville, NC! Gorgeous area! You should go to GetMeAnAgent.com. They will put you in touch with a great real estate agent (who might be able to give you some direction), and give you back $500 at closing. You can't beat it!!

You'll Be Sorry!

Ashville is full of redneck biggots, hookers and panhandlers. It is home to the Travelers, a highly mobile con group. You will better off staying put. Hope it helps!
