Great question. I always saw of of science as seperate from the rest of the liberal arts because....humans have created things like language, art, literature, music, sociology, buisness etc etc.
But science wasn't created by humans...nature did that and we're simply trying to figure it out. We're trying to figure out more about what makes us human, what makes animals animals and our environment from tiny microbes all the way to the universe we live in.
The more we understand about biology....the more we can learn and change the "human condition" Advances in Science and technology is what seperates us from the beasts....and is why we can look down from the top of the food chain.
Learning about the complex relationships in biology helps us to lead longer lives through advances in medicine. Advances in technology helps to enrich our lives.

The Science of Biology is an attempt to systematise and understand the working of Nature. After the discovery of DNA and the development of Chemical Biology and Genetics, it is possible to create new life forms thus expanding knowledge as we know it.

Most importantly as a source of medical knowlege. The more we know about our bodies and the basic workings of them, the better equipped we are to treat problems as they arise.
