Since I have the LAREDO, my car is always is 4 WD. I do not have the option of being in 2 WD. The purpose of my question is to find out if this is something somebody with reasonable skill with a wrench can do themselves. I already have found out that the switch is about $33.00. I am not interested in paying $300.00 in labor at a delearship if it something I can easily do myself.

you have four wheel drive and either your switch is on when it shouldn't be. Or needs to be on when it isn't. It could also be that your sensor on that particular switch is going bad.

The terms 4WD and 4X4 are used in jeeps and other off-road vehicles that require the driver to switch from 2WD used in street driving (two wheel drive) to 4WD to improve the grip depending on the road condition like mud, snow, etc. and it has a high and low gear selection.

there shoul be a smaller knob next to the gearshift on a jeep. mine was a wrangler automatic and it was right next to the regular shifter. it depends what year it is. anyway. you could have the four wheel drive not completely engaged or not engaged. check it by putting it into 4wd and then taking it back out agian. it may be a sensor.
