Hello there! I got this from Wikipedia:

PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is an open-source, reflective programming language. Originally designed as a high level scripting language for producing dynamic Web pages, PHP is used mainly in server-side application software.

When Rasmus Lerdorf released the first PHP, it was a Perl script called Professional Home Page (in fact, Rasmus used it on his home page to track visitors). Since then, PHP was re-written in C and came to mean "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor" (it's a recursive acronym along the lines of "GNU's Not Unix").
