either of the two answers you have will work. I use to use the first one all the time.
If you have the computers networked then you can put the outlook PST file in a directory that is shared and have both computers point to the same file. I have a network drive that I keep these files on and all my computers point to the same file. I use a network dirve so that I do not have to have both computers on at the same time. You have to move the current PST file to that directory and delete the other copy off the other computer. Then when outlook starts again it will complain that the PST file is not found and then you browse for the place where you moved the file and double click on the name. Then both computer will be using the same file and either will update the file for both.
