Hi. I am currently doing an assignment on vitamins. I appreciate a lot if anyone out there with a good knowledge of biochemistry can give me a definition of vitamins.
Thanks in advance (and do give your suggestion whether to put biochemistry questions in chemistry or biology).

vitamins are organic compounds which are essential for growth and metabolism of body. There deficiency cause serious medical problems. However, nature has provided them in abundance in balanced diet. If some one consume the cheapest avaialable fruits/vegetable/grains regularly they will never run out of vitamins. Body needs vitamins in extremely small amount daily, like salt in your daily meals, and you can not become deficient in a short period of time either.

vitamins are organic compounds that the body needs to do a certain function. you're not gonna get the answer you want here. what you need to do is open text books and start reading.
