Star Wars is more popular as it is action-oriented, not ideas-oriented like the best of Star Trek (TOS, TNG) is. It's aimed at a wider, more general audience and doesn't demand as much of the audience. So it has a bigger fanbase but is not necessarily better. As someone said in a 1986 Newsweek magazine, 'Star Wars fans want toys. Star Trek fans want information'.

Go up to someone and ask them to sing a theme from star wars or Star Trek (which ever one they can think of first.) You'll get a star wars almost every time.

Star Trek is more popular on an overall basis w/ a much larger audience a long with it's movies too = Star Wars is only popular when the latest movie comes out...

It is hard to say really!
I personally like Star Wars better,but I have many friends who like Star Wars and I have many friends who like Star Trek more!
I really don't like what lucas did with new ones though,he could have done a better job!

Ok dude Startrek was amazing i loved it up untill deep space nine and enterprise those two shows just were'nt done well "voyager" and the next generation were awesome but see the thing is americans have a fascination with light sabers and darth vaders voice so star wars in the long run tops the chart in popularity
