It's used to emphasize a point.

Be sure to CAPITALIZE it, and add a comma.

And, be careful to not overuse it!

"And" is a conjunction whose function is to join similar constructions, such as two subjects, two verbs, two main clauses. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid using it to begin a sentence. However, some writers, writing in an informal voice, sometimes do so for effect. For example: "Mary is always making rude comments to my friends. And, I do not like it!!" .In formal writing, such as in essays or compositions for school, you should avoid beginning a sentence with "and."

I hope this helps. (From an English teacher.)

It's not a good idea... since "and" is a conjunction. Most grammarians would NOT want you to start a sentence with a conjunction. Just get rid of it.

It's generally considered bad form; but once you've established yourself as a writer (i.e.; once you're out of school) your peers will grant you a lot more license to break those rules if doing so makes a useful stylistic or narrative point....

Technically it is incorrect. If you do it for an essay or other school assignment, most teachers will consider it an error and take off points for it.

If you are getting graded on it, I wouldn't advise it. If its an informal e mail, letter, etc ,and you are doing for tone - go for it!

Formally, you may never do that. Informally, I do it all the time.
