Why does the clothing chain TJ Maxx call itself "TJ Maxx" in the United States, yet "TK Maxx" in the United Kingdom?

Most likely, the name TJ Maxx was already a trade mark in the UK, or TK Maxx was already a trade mark in the USA.
Another possibility, though less likely, is that at one time they aquired another company and merged the names. For example, If TJ Maxx USA aquired a company in the UK called, "Thomas Kane", they might rename those stores "TK Maxx" to keep the original brand recognition.
