So I was playing football, it was hot outside. I felt like I had drank to much or something, So I drank water and not even 10 minutes later I Threw it all up, I tried drinking liquids tow other times and threw it all up.

So I layed down for about an hour and a half and ate some food about 2 hours later and my stomache was fine.

I don't understand why I kept throwing up, there was no stomache acid it the liquid when I vomited so did it just sit in my stomach and my body didn't try to break it down because of the dehydration. Can someone explain this?

Yeah - this sort of phenomenon happens sometimes.

When you are playing a sport or exerting yourself (activating the fight/flight/fright response) you are activating a part of the nervous system that turns on the muscles, heart and brain (sympathetic nervous system) but turns off the stomach and digestive system (parasympathetic nervous system - rest and digest).

So the water will sit there.

If you need to rehydrate during sport or activity - drink small sips and then come back later and drink a few more small sips. This will allow for a small amount of absorption through the small intestine and keep a minimal amount of fluid in your stomach for if you feel like vomiting.

When you rest, then your parasympathetic nervous system works again and your gut is better able to move the water along into the intestine and absorb it.

It isn't the dehydration per se that caused you to vomit. It was more likely heat exhaustion. Your body temperature was too high. Temperature regulatory warnings were not being followed by you. You were not adequately hydrated to begin with. It was too hot. The sympathetic nervous system can shut down and parasympathetic nervous system takes over. This system is responsible for vomiting, increase in bowel activity and wants you to slow down. And it worked, you did stop playing sports and overheating your body.

You probably drank too much water, and/or it was too cold. This is a shock to you system, and up it comes. Try smaller amounts of water and it's better for you if it isn't very cold.

You probably tried to drink too much at once. The body knows what it can handle, and it was already stressed.
