It's a SHAM... it's meant to fool you into thinking it's really a pillow. But it's not. You can't use it for anything but decortation. That's why I put an anvil in mine.

A pillow sham is what you put over ordinary pillows that give them a decorative look. They are not meant to be slept on, but meant to give you bed an added decorative touch.

to finish the decor of a bed. It is primarily for looks not for use in sleeping. You can prop oneself to read or for puzzles with the sham under your sleeping pillow.

It's for a decorative pillow to just throw on your bed to match your

They were mostly put on the large old beds that were fancy as all get out.
They "completed" the bed assembly, with the huge "down quilt comfortors", and huge goose feathered pillows, that you just wanted to sink into and never leave the bed again!!! :)
