The earring thing is not a reliable sign about anyone's sexual orientation. there used to be a saying 'left is right and right is wrong' that supposedly indicated a man was gay is he worn a piercing in his right ear. This 'sign' is long past and it really has no meaning at all today.
As for other signs, I am not aware of any. These things were needed in the past so that gay men could identify each other prior to the advent of the internet age and at a time when homosexuality was not acceptable in society. Today there is a much wider acceptance of homosexuals and clandestine signals are no longer needed.

What difference does it make? I mean if you have the hots for a guy then get to know him see if you think he might be open to a relationship. when the friendship has developed to the point where you are talking about your interests then find out how he feels about homosexuals. Just take it from there. G0ys don't have this problem we just make friends and have sex with the ones that are into that, not having to try to hook up all the time is great. The sexual hookup is the death of all male friendships.

What are you reading about the 70's? Those were all things talked about then by the str8 community as signs someone was gay. Anymore then is no way to know if someone is gay or not...you have to ask...

Bull -- I know straight guys with earrings in their right ears just because they wanted to confuse people or because they are gay supportive.
In any event. Just ask the person, its ok. If you think they are cute and you want to go out with them -- tell them. It's usually alright.

real hard to tell now days unless they are flamboyantly acting or dressed. No true signs anymore unless you go to gay areas of town or a gay bar

Those are actually old signs. Today's homo relies on body language and verbal cues to communicate that he is a homo. Of course, if he dresses like a homo that is a give away to.
