What we have to learn is who and what we are... which leads to why we are.

What we have to unlearn is what we "think about" who and what we are, and why we are.

So, who are we? Souls. What are we? Three simultaneously existing, and yet separate realms of vibrational energy: At ones core is the Spiritual realm; then the MIND realm; and finally the physical realm, including our body, brain, and physical senses.

Why are we? To fully explore and experience the entire Creation, moving from fully attached to the physical to, slowly learning that the physical realm is not our true Home.

We have to learn how to adapt and be flexible and non-judgemental.

We probably need to unlearn any and all character defects and bad habits.
