Evil... That's a word reserved for fantasy, computer games, religion... and American Politics?

What is your opinion of labelling people, countries, political movements "Evil"? Is this a breach of the separation of Church and State? Is it just an adjective? Why is it so popular in the states? Are you a "looney" if you use it? Or just morally informed?

Using "Evil" as a label for people, countries, and political movements is a bad idea. It closes the door on diplomacy. By doing so, you have eliminated any possibility for yourself to negotiate, and pacify people, countries, and political movements that are not in alignment with your own goals.

"Evil" is a very subjective label, and not an objective description of the person, country, or political movement at all.

It is also VERY presumptuous of a secular leader/"labeller" to declare something as "evil". It smacks of weakness and a lack of creativity. They are hiding behind a veil of us v. them. It also sets an incorrect framework of discussion about the problem which makes it nearly impossible to resolve.

People should automatically reject the label "evil" applied to people, countries and political movements. They should replace it with a label that accurately discribes the actions of the group, not a PERCEIVED alignment that drives that person or group.

George Bush and this current administration uses the term "evil" in a Straussian context. It's based in propaganda established to convince our nation's citizens that our country is above all others and destined by God for greatness.

The "winning" country gets to write the rules, regardless of our own atrocities.

george bush junior is basically a pawn of the right wing of the american power elite-----simply labelling certain countries or movements evil doers is simply too easy and does nothing to solve the problem

The concept of evil does not sit well with an atheist. So yes, you're a loony if you use it.

In a political sense, it's usually excessive and somewhat silly. I think more accureate labels would be "misinformed", "misguided", etc...
