i think a fish would be the easiet. try a beta. a male. they live alone and are beautiful. about once a week i have to change the water, and i feed him everyday. i have a fake plant in the bowl and stones and these little plastic like lobsters and shells. he is fun to watch. he likes to swim through the plant, kick stones around, etc. but you can't pet him. a hamster is something you can hold and play with, but what if it gets loose? and it would also need more taking care of. maybe try a rat, i know weird rite? well you can teach them tricks, and they are a little bigger so if it gets loose it will be easier to find.
good luck!

I had a hamster and adored it but in a small flat it may be tough. They are notcurnal animals and are up at all hours of the night. You also have to be very religious in cleaning their cages because otherwise they can really stink.

Hamster are nice but if you consider them why not a gerbil.
I warn you fish are addicting!
I started with 1 small tank and ended up with, let me count, 3 10 gal. (one had a dwarf lion and the one under it was for his live food) 2 55 gal. (one of which was my angel tank with live plants) a 20 extra tall (absolutely beautiful it was my salt water tank)...
I could go on but you have to learn for yourself, as long as you consider the work involved in caring for them they both be great pets.

Definately fish, hamsters stink and you have to clean their cage more often than you do a fish tank. Fish are relaxing to watch.

Get a fish. They're much more interesting than a hamster.

Fish. They are easier to dispose of. Not quite as easy to flush a hamster.

get a fish, but keep the bowl small, since you need to keep it clean. But dont get goldfish, they Sh*t alot and it makes there water stink very bad, Hamsters are harder to clean up after.
