Some are filmed in front of live audiences whilst other are not.
Depends if your in the UK or the US.
For the UK, try http://www.sroaudiences.co.uk or http://www.beonscreen.co.uk
You might be able to use http://www.beonscreen.com for the US but I'm not sure.
Nice question and good luck with being in the audience.
:-)

In the old days they, well not so old for me they would always say "filmed in front of a live studio audience" in the intro. Today some are and some aren't some stil use the old fashioned laugh tracks some don't. Think about it for a second so you laugh out loud more by yourself or when you hear others laughing. It is only natural to laugh harder in the prescence of other laughter. To the concious mind you think I laughed at that show, I will watch it again. Something usually has to be pretty damn funny for you lol all by yourself.

Some are.. and they will usually announce on the beginning of the show... "Blah Blah Blah" is filmed in front of a live studio audience. But the shows I have seen have also had 'laugh tracks' added to them to supplement real audience laughter.

They're known to do both. For the most part they are not filmed in front of a live audience, all sound effects are added. But normally when they have special episodes, like end of the season, then it could be live. But they will always announce it when it will be live.

In the UK they do both, it depends on how big the budget is, where they are filming etc. Some things have an audience for the studio bits but then have to add laughter for the bits filmed on location.

Both ways. If the audience doesn't laugh enough, they add canned laughter.

Both.
Live audiance are invited to watch the filming, and follow cue lights telling them when to laugh and cry, or clap.
Then computer added sounds are includied during editing to add to the volume of the audiance.
