First, listen! You don't need phrases as much as you need to listen to people talk. Hear the rhythm, the inflections, the unpronounced letters and syllables. (Example: Don't say Wed-nez-day for Wednesday; we pronounce it Wenz-day.)
Then, repeat! Practice when you're alone, or under your breath or even just in your head. But saying things out loud is crucial because your mouth needs to learn to move the same way ours do.

In interviews. Well first things first. While in an interview, make sure you have all the characteristics and traits that your employer is looking for, not neccicarilly for the job per say, but rather during your interview. For instance, speak loud and clear so that your interviewer can hear you. Don't mummble. Try to maintain eye contact and most importantly, even if you can't speak good english, try to show them that you have what it takes to be the best at this job.
Next time, in promulgating your esoteric cogitations, or articulating your superficial sentimentalities and amicable, philosophical or psychological observations, beware of platitudinous ponderosity. Let your conversational communications possess a clarified conciseness, a compacted comprehensibleness, coalescent consistency, and a concatenated cogency. Eschew all conglomerations of flatulent garrulity, jejune babblement, and asinine affectations.
In other words, talk plainly, briefly, naturally, sensibly, truthfully, purely. Keep from slang; don't put on airs; say what you mean; mean what you say. And, don't use big words!

Simple 1)Read lots of books and newspapers and browse the dictionary to learn new words -preferably illustrated dictionary 2)Listen and watch news on radios and television to get an idea on pronunciation .This will also improve listening capability 3)Try to talk in English and don't be embarrassed when you go wrong. 4)But Most IMPORTANTLY you'll have to think in English because it is the only way those with English accent learn English as their mother tongue. So you'll have to form words in mind even when you do not have to say it and correct yourself when you are wrong. PS. And I am not western.I'm from India ☺☺☺☺☺

WE as American's have the most trouble understanding someone from another country, would be the pronouning of our vowels... A E I O U, we want our ear to hear what we are used to hearing, other people that didn't learn this language from birth are kinda on the bad side of our US English. The Queen's english is again different in slang and terminlogy. Don't use slang on interviews, do speak slowly, the quicker you speak the harder it will be to understand you or for the person speaking with you to make sure YOU understand what is being said. The phone is another place I have a hard time understanding someone of another tounge. Spanish and Orentials are the hardest to understand, folks from Pakistan, Iran, etc, they at least TRY to speak our language and do pretty go in fact. Because everything is in spanish the Spanish I found don't try as hard to understand english OR help us understand them. The simple fact is, we as American's as a whole, won't learn spanish or any other language. We just want to speak and hear what we learn as children.\
Say little American sayings like, Silly Sally sat by the sea shore shinning her silly shoes. Dumb ya, but helps with pronoucing our "S" words.
Peter Piper Pecked a peck of pickled peppers, how many pecks did Peter Piper Peck?
Just another dumb thing we said to learn our language.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

first of all, do not try to copy television or movies, as more often then not the characters have to read from a very exact script. what i would suggest is find 1-2 people who are native english speakers, and meet with them every week just to talk. talk about anything and everything. if you want, have them correct you when you say something akward. the point is to use the language as much and as often as possible, so that it becomes second nature.

Oh, my. I don't know how many times when I have been in an RV park in South Texas that someone has found out I speak Spanish and come to me asking if I can give them the 100 or so "Magic Words" so they can talk spanish with the Mexican. They leave with their feelings hurt, when I explain that I will be happy to help them learn spanish and even help them practice, but there there are no mysterious 100 words they can use which would begin to cover their needs. If they really want to learn how to communicate in Spanish, then they need to LEARN spanish.
It you really want to improve your English, then it's practice, practice and practice and forget trying to learn the mysterious 100 best words and phrases because they really don't exist.
