You know this is an awesome question..I have never given it a thought...but I think any immigrant cant have that status !! It is a definition preserved for Blacks and which has evolved over the years....because I think white African who is an American citizen is African American not Black Americans who do not give a "hoot" about Africa.....

LOL...that's a good question!!! I never thought about that! Maybe the American society wouldn't consider them African American because this society is solely focused on the color of skin... or maybe white immigrants from S. Africa know that most African Americans are "black" so they don't want to be labeled in a group as "blacks" are...I really don't know!

Actually, you have a good point. The African American description doesn't have to denote person "of color" if from Africa. But then again, what about Egyptians who migrate to America and become citizens? African American still? I would say yes to that also.

For example: Asian Americans are from either China, Philippines, Japan, Korea, or Vietnamese.

That was a good question.

it's more so that African American donotes the originallity of the people, as we have all learned blacks were brought over from africa...we all know the story. Well Originally there were no whites in South Africa, they were immigrants themselves from Europe after colonizing the country. As was American soil it was colonized by Europeans. But through the years the term has gone from being one of nationality to one of race to be more politically correct.

I like this question!!!!!!!!! And, I also know Blacks who do not like being called African Americans---------they prefer Black, as Blacks come from all over the world.

Also, why not put everyone in a category----even several generations down---''Irish American'', German American'', Greek American--, etc.,? Isn't that a stupid question? Americans are Americans, no matter where they come from, or what color they are.

Do you know many white south Africans that like to be called African Americans? Should white Americans be called "native Americans" since they were born in the States? The point is: there's no sense in those conventions. Americans should be called Americans no mater where their ancestors came from.

I don't know. I think ***** is a better title for those who are descendants of the people who survived the chattel slavery here.

'Africa' isn't the important part. It is surviving the tribulations of the diaspora and the terrorism visited upon them in the past that is the reason behind calling some black people 'African Americans' for the most part.

I think all titles and other stuff based on color is ridiculous.

African Americans are people who can trace their ancestry to Africa. A person born in South Africa and moves here is an African American. It doesn't matter what color you are.

oh my god.
you have posted over 5 questions about black people.
why are you so obsessed with blacks?
so you're tired of seeing blacks on t.v.?
that is such a racist statement.
so you're basically saying you want all balcks to disappear.
you no longer want to see our faces.
well move to mars because living here in america you are going to see ALL types of people.
i can't believe you made that statement.
and the only reason there is BET,BLACK MISS AMERICA and so on,is because we didn't have a chance to have our programs shown on tv.
white america didn't allow us in their colleges, magazines, country clubs, music award shows.
all of our accomplishments would not get recognized because of your way of thinking.
wow.
and as far as a "STOLEN TITLE",how can it be a stolen title if my ancestors were from africa?
that means i have african blood in me.
you think you are slick in the way you word some of your questions but i see venom all through them.
it's so clear you are a racist.

just get yourself together brother.
life is too short to hate.
we are at war with another country and are supposed to be protecting our land(from terrorist) and you're probably thinking of a plan to rid america of blacks(which we didnt even ask to be brought herein the first place.)but we all are american.

you know deep down in your heart the way you think is not right.
i don't know where your hatred for blacks came from.
maybe a black person did something bad to you.
if they did ,i apoligize for that.
it wasn't me,but i apoligize.

let go of the hate man.
god doesn't want you to be like this.
and you shouldn't want to be like this.

god bless you brother.

PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL RACES.
