well you could pick some up for them and say that there was a big sale on them somewhere so you picked up a few for them too.

My mother uses towels that are so worn that they are smooth. We gave her a nice set for Christmas one year but whenever I visit I see she is still using the rags. She just hates to throw anything away. I think she uses the good towels when she has real company other than myself. She also gives me towels for gifts but they are not very good...it's hard to get dry with them because they just don't absorb the moisture.

Donna's got the perfect answer: that way you'll just sound thrifty and not like you didn't care for what they already have. You don't HAVE to buy yourself some, too, but if you use that part of the excuse, make sure you do have some on hand in case they come over.

Also, if they offer to pay, take it. That way they won't feel obligated but will still feel grateful you thought of them. Don't forget to "adjust" the total!

I had the same problem with my mom. So instead of being so forward I went to Dollar General and bought her new bathroom stuff. I told her that I thought it'd make her bathroom prettier. She's used to it now cause I do it once a year just cause nice bathrooms are a pet peeve of mine.

Why not buy them a lovely gift of new linens for Xmas. . I personally like old linens..especially cotton sheets, they get soo soft with age, they are heaven.

If you see a need, fulfill it.
Sometimes words can hurt when action is needed.
