Thingy is that word that you use when you forget what the object is called. Normally, people still have no clue what you are talking about unless you have a really close chosen few who actually understand that the person who is continually thingy is completely silly and they will begin to guess what the "Thingy" is. Sad but I had a habit of saying that a lot......

sorry...a thingy is a word used when i cant think of the actual word. In my past answer a thingy would be the ashtray that i keep my change in......sorry for the vagueness and confusion. I tend to use thingy, stuff, 'you know what i mean' alot

It is a thing that has a thingy on it or with it. Non descript really you either know it or you don't but it is useually said in the context of the thing that you should know about.
