Hello Fantasia,
One of my sources (An Atlas of diseases of the Nail) reports op page 16:
"Leukonychia is the name given to white nails. The condition can be congenital or acquired, complete or partial, and true or transparent. Punctate and striate leukonychia is a common partial leukonychia"
PS. You can also check my website for more detailed info:

Growing up used to get them alot. Body undergoing changes- it's a hormonal thingy.
There are many medical diagnosis that can be made from the careful observation of nails...
Good diet and vitamins have curtailed a lot of those dieases... and it's rarely anything taught in medical schools(diagnosis is cost free so where;s the profit in that?)
Nails more easily 'bruised' when young and undergoing those changes??? I DO remember the first time having 'clear' nails...
as it seemed that at least one or two were constantly having 'clouds'...

If you add zinc to your diet it will go away. Its a lack of zinc. Go the whole hog and take a total supplement. Chances are you might be needing more than zinc if your diet isn't up to par. Also, if you live near the beach, run your fingernails through the sand while your sunbaking. It does wonders for some reason! If you buff them as well they will get stronger. It doesn't take much, if you keep a buffer near where you watch tv or something, and give thema rub, they will toughen right up. True!

I used to have them as a kid, but have not seen them in years. My grandmother used to say that it's because I don't drink milk. Well, that too has changed, but I don't know if there is a connection.
