After I enter password, computer takes it and after 2-3 steps, it returns to same screen, asking password?

I have Dell computeer, has Windows 2000 professional system. I didn't use this computer for one month. Now it gives me this problem. My password is correct, my computer takes it and goes for 2-3 steps, and then it returns to the same screen, asking for password. So please advice me, "How can I resolve this problem?"

are you positive the password is right, or is it possible that someone else used your computer that knew your password and then changed it. I dont know how to get past it unless you can take it to a computer specialist.

Make very sure that the URL of the website is correct! If you mistyped that, you could have been taken to a hoax website... or, someone might have broken into your account and changed the password, so try going through the steps you take when you've forgotten your password: recovering it or changing it through other means, as the website instructs (probably in a "Forgot password?" link, or something similar). Finally, if all else fails, try waiting a few days, as there might be some kind of temporary glitch.

Most probably you forget your password and somehow it is changed.Another thing could be happen that problem with capslock.However i dont think you are making this mistake.sometime o/s stucks because it lost the password bcoz we dont use computer for some long time.Why?
YOu did not ask but your solution is reinstall your o/s again.

Try to boot up in safe mode and see if that works. If it works, then you are having a problem with a program that you installed, or some malfunctioning hardware.
