Would nuclear weapons deter Islamic Terrorists?

It has been suggested that the US should destroy sacred Islamic sites when/if Western interests are attacked again. Would that actually work or would it just play into the hands of the terrorists, since they are just using the religion to brainwash people?

Just a note:

I'm not talking about destroying countries/cities/people with atomic weapons, but rather, sites of relgious significance... Mecca, Medina, whatever else.

While religions may teach peace, they are more often twisted to convince people to do evil. I can't think of a religion (Buddism maybe) where the religion hasn't been used for violence.

Definitely the wrong thing to do. Terrorists who claim the Islamic faith as theirs make up a minuscule minority of followers. Why punish the true followers of a religion that promotes peace simply to get back at people who have twisted its teachings. It could be argued that all religions brainwash people so do we bomb all sacred sites.

I would like to think so but im not sure. I think it would to a degree. It depends on how much the leaders of thier extreme religion and the dicators believe in all that nonesense. If they really believe it, than the threat of a nuclear backlash on them might not work. If they truely believe they will all go to heaven with thousands of virgins then knowing if they strike first with nukes only to get pounded by us with nukes and wiped off the map might not deter them. They arent stupid and know we have 'things' in place all over the world ready to strike if the time comes to strike with our nukes. We would obliterate them completely. I hope that would keep them from doing something stupid but only time will tell.
It is safe to say that thousands if not millions of them really think they can kill innocent people and even themselves and go to thier heaven that doesnt exist for them afterwards. How far they are willing to take that i dont know. I think they are getting brain washed and i question how much thier leaders believe in that. I think they brainwash thier people into believing that so they can do thier dirty work. I dont think the leaders of Iran really believe that junk to the full extent. THey are just using those idiots that believe in it to do thier evil work. To make them think they are dying and killing for a good cause in marterdom. Muslims, it seems to me are cowards and just ignorant. Theyre like lemmings.

That's an interesting question. I think if Mecca got nuked that would sort of send the message that Allah isn't on their side.

No. According to their beliefs, if they die while fighting for Allah, they are assured a place in heaven. so death is not really a deterrent to them.
