if you view voting as a right, not a responsibility, then one, indeed, has the right not to exercise the vote. But then that person forfeits his right to complain -- he had the chance to make his voice heard and influence the system. Whining about it after ignoring that opportunity is not allowed.

Voting and churching are dissimilar.

Not voting will end up curtailing your other rights. Not churching has no effect.

You can see the tangible effects of not voting. The results take place in THIS world, in front of your very eyes. Other people make decisions for you.

Voting isn't a 'right' it is a privilege that many try to deprive you of. Felons can't vote, minors can't vote, mental hospital captives can't vote. Churching is for everybody who breathes. The incentive to get people to church is to control their minds and take their money. They are trying to sell you something. Not so with voting. Voting is a responsibility and a privilege, but not a right.

No one is forced to vote or to join a religion. Maybe they are as children, religion that is, but when they grow up they can leave whenever they want. As for voting, you don't have to and no one will or should ever try to force you, but if you don't vote and you get someone in charge that is not the best candidate I really don't feel that you have the right to ***** and moan about it since you yourself did nothing about it.

Of course, in America, one has the right not to vote and no one is making anyone vote.

Some people are attempting to persuade the public to vote. In doing so they are exercising the right to voice their opinion. No one has a right to limit the opinion of another and the opinion that citizens should vote is most certainly not "un-American."

Citizens certainly ought to vote but I see no reason to waste energy attempting to persuade non-voters to vote.

Indeed since the ignorant, mentally inferior, and lower class are less likely to vote I see no need to encourage them.

The 'herd mentality' notwithstanding, neither voting nor religion should be a matter of popular opinion. Congratulations for having a conscience. Ther are 63 lobbyist FOR EACH REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS, each with a pocketful of money to buy influence. Why should they care about our opinion when there is no money attached to it?

It is up to the person...on the issue of voting though, here in America, it is considered a privilege...why would you NOT want to vote? As for religion....yes, it is freedom of choice not to be religious and believe in God, though I believe it is morally wrong. JMO.

Yes. Good point. In fact I sometimes wish that I was the only one who ever bothered to vote.

The people who don't want to vote shouldn't vote. I don't want apathetic people electing our leaders, anyway--they could just check off any old name on the ballot without really informing themselves about the politicians' platforms.

Sure, you have the right to obstain from voting, but when you do, you have lost the right to complain.

If you have a headache and don't take a tylenol, you have lost the right to complain about the headache.
