You need to know about the salon's sanitation practices: does the technician wear gloves? Are the wax applicators disposed of after a single use?
You also need to know that around your monthly cycle, having a bikini wax is more painful than at other times of the month; so be sure to schedule accordingly.
You might want to try a basic bikini wax your first time so you can get an idea of how painful it'll be for you. If you don't find that very painful, a brazilian shouldn't be a problem. There are only a couple of strips that really *hurt* me, but the pain is over with pretty quickly. It's way better than shaving, imho.
You can take a couple ibuprofen before your appointment; it does seem to help. You can also buy topical anesthetic creams that can help ease the pain: http://www.topicaine.net/page/page/770006.htm

A Brazilian Wax is the way to go - it hurts like hell the first time, but if you keep up with it, it hurts less and less each time. A Brazilian is where EVERYTHING goes with the exception of a "landing strip" if desired. The only setback is the price - you have to go about every 3 weeks and it can get quite pricey, but it's totally worth it if you've got the bucks!

Make sure you're hair has grown out so that they get more of it out. If your hair is too short, it will break off and then they have to pluck it out and that's rather painful. Also before you leave or pay, make sure they've done an exceptional job. Some places think that since you can hardly see down there, that they can be sloppy. Get you're moneys worth.

I'd rather give birth to a full size human than bikini wax..I tried my legs one time and got ONE strip done...after that pain...I'd rather take the extra time to carefully shave in the bikini area...that is just PURE torture!!!

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.
A review of the various hair removal methods is available at http://tinyurl.com/ob6tt

have a few drinks beforehand.
other than that, it's pretty straightforward. It's not that bad. I used to get my legs waxed (back in my cycling days). An on some occasions, I had the girl wax EVERYTHING (including crack and sac). so I speak from experience.

you need to do some research first so that when you go you know exactly what type you want and you need to find out the credentials of the place you go to.
